What happens in a pole fitness class?

So you're thinking of going to a pole class for the first time but aren't sure what to expect?
All my classes start with a warm up to make sure your body is ready to work out. This normally takes 5-10 minutes to make sure your heart rate is up and you are warm. I switch between moves such as jogging on the spot, squats, lunges, and other aerobic moves and then focus on different body parts to make sure your arms, your shoulders, your wrists, your thighs etc are all warmed up.
The middle part of my lessons are for learning and practicing your pole spins/moves. However, I sometimes take 10 minutes or so at the beginning of this middle part to do conditioning moves, or 10 minutes at the end to do split stretching.
Conditioning moves help increase your strength and endurance which help with getting certain pole moves and move onto more advanced ones. Conditioning is mostly done using the pole and combining some actual pole moves but in repetitions to work you more, but I also throw in some crunches, press ups, squats etc depending on which body part i'm focusing on that week.
For split stretching I do various more intense stretches to ensure all your muscles in your legs are targeted to help get you into your splits. Being flexible will help nail certain pole moves and make others look more elegant.
The cool down then stretches out all parts of your body so you're not hurting too much the next day (!) and to lower your heart rate back down again.
Of course, you will only get out of your pole lesson what you put in, so make sure you go in hard and strong and work your bum off each week to see the changes that pole fitness can give you.
